Achilles Tendonitis
When the achilles tendon, located at the back of the ankle, becomes inflamed, the resulting condition is called achilles tendonitis. A common condition in athletes, it can be very painful and can make even walking almost impossible.
Common causes of achilles tendonitis include:
- Overuse of the Achilles tendon
- Lack of flexibility
- Poor footwear
- Changes in exercise patterns
Symptoms of Achilles tendonitis are typically mild at first, and then worsen. As the condition progresses, sufferers may notice swelling and pain at the back of the ankle.
Symptoms of Achilles tendonitis include:
- Pain
- Stiffness
- Swelling or a “bump” on tendon
- Cracking sound when moving the tendon
Treatment for Achilles tendonitis may include icing the area, wearing an elastic bandage and discontinuing the activity that caused the condition. In some severe cases, rehabilitation may be necessary.
If you believe you are suffering from Achilles tendonitis, Dr. Jackson will diagnose your injury and develop a treatment plan specific to you.
