Arthritis
Arthritis can affect any of the joints in the body, and can cause a good deal of discomfort. When arthritis affects the foot and ankle areas, sufferers can experience pain and difficulty walking.
There are a number of causes and risk factors for arthritis, including increasing age, genetics, obesity or injury to the joints.
Common symptoms of arthritis include:
- Pain and tenderness in the joint
- Stiffness of the joint
- Swelling of the affected area
There is no cure for arthritis, but there are ways to treat the symptoms and relieve the discomfort. Once Dr. Jackson diagnoses your arthritis, he will recommend a course of treatment for managing your pain. Typical treatments include pain relievers, custom made footwear or orthotics, ankle braces and physical therapy. In some extreme cases, surgical options can be necessary.
