Blisters
Blisters can occur anywhere on the skin, but are particularly common on the skin of the feet. They are small swellings of the skin containing fluid that can become painful or uncomfortable.
Common causes of blisters include:
- Heat and moisture
- Friction
- Infection or allergic reactions
- Excessive sweat
When a sock or shoe rubs repeatedly against a part of the skin, the friction, heat and sweat all combine to create a blister. Generally speaking, blisters are harmless, but if a blister appears red or leaks yellow fluid, it could be infected and you should see a doctor.
Normal blisters ought to be left alone, kept clean and dry until they heal on their own. Blisters can be prevented in the future by wearing properly-fitting shoes and keeping the feet as dry as possible.
