Bone Spurs

Bone spurs are bone-like projections that form along the bone. They can form on any bone in the body, but can cause a large amount of discomfort when they form on the feet.

Common causes of bone spurs on the feet include:

  • The wearing down of bones with age
  • Activities that put stress on the feet
  • Poorly-fitting footwear
  • Conditions like plantar fasciitis
  • Obesity

Sometimes bone spurs develop on the feet and go largely unnoticed, causing little, if any, pain or discomfort. In some cases, however, they can cause swelling, discomfort and loss of motion in a joint, and that’s when it’s important to seek treatment.

If Dr. Jackson diagnoses you with a bone spur on your foot, he may recommend a number of treatments. Anti-inflammatory drugs may help fight the pain and irritation. In some cases, especially if the bone spur limits the movement of your joints, surgical options may need to be considered.
