Fungus
Fungus results from pathogens that cause infections, and it can occur anywhere on the body. It is particularly common on the feet, however, where it can manifest as Athlete's foot or toenail fungal infections.
Foot fungus of all sorts can be prevented in a number of ways, including:
- Wearing dry, comfortable and properly-fitting footwear
- Wearing shoes in public showers and restrooms
- Keeping your feet clean and dry at all times
- Keeping your toenails trimmed and clean
If your feet develop fungus, your doctor will determine if treatment is necessary. Your doctor may recommend a variety of treatment options to you. Medicated powders and antifungal creams may be best to treat Athlete's foot or similar fungi, while medicated toenail polish may be ideal to treat toenail fungus. In some cases of fungal infection, oral medication may be necessary as well.
