Intoeing
Intoeing is a condition in which the feet are turned inward instead of pointing outward while a person walks or runs. While it's common in children, it frequently corrects itself without treatment as a child ages.
The condition can be caused by a few different things:
- Curvature of the foot (metatarsus adductus)
- Twisted shin (tibia torsion)
- Twisted thigh bone (increased femoral anteversion)
While intoeing can cause sufferers to have trouble walking or to stumble, it rarely causes other symptoms like pain or discomfort. Because it tends to improve with age, treatment is rarely necessary. In a few cases, a doctor may recommend special shoes, or in very rare cases, surgery.
