Neuroma
A neuroma is a growth of nerve tissue, and when it occurs in the foot, it’s commonly referred to as Morton’s neuroma. While this condition is benign, it can result in numbness or pain where it occurs.
Symptoms of Morton’s neuroma include:
- Intense pain in the ball of the foot that intensifies with activity
- Numbness in the toes
- Pain when wearing high heels or tight shoes
If you suspect you suffer from Morton’s neuroma, your doctor can diagnose you after a thorough investigation. After determining a diagnosis, he or she will recommend a treatment plan for you.
Treatment options for Morton’s neuroma include:
- Wearing wider, lower-heeled footwear
- Custom orthotics
- Corticosteroid injections
If none of these options improves your neuroma, your doctor may recommend surgical options.
