Warts
While many warts that develop on the feet are harmless, they can cause pain and discomfort. A wart is a viral infection that can appear on any part of the skin.
A common type of wart to affect the foot is a plantar wart. They develop on the sole of the foot and tend to be hard, flat, rough spots. People frequently contract plantar warts by walking barefoot on dirty surfaces, so it's best to wear protective footwear whenever possible.
Symptoms of plantar warts include:
- Thickened skin that may resemble a callus
- Pain in the area
- Tiny black dots on the surface of the wart
Without treatment, warts can grow to an inch or more in circumference or spread into clusters. Because of plantar warts' location on the sole of the foot, they can cause sharp, burning pain. Dr. Jackson will examine the area thoroughly to determine whether medication or removal is the best method of treating the wart.
