Pediatric

Proper foot care should begin early in life to insure foot health as we age. Parents should be mindful of their children's foot and ankle development as they age and should remember:

  • Children's feet are not simply a smaller version of adult feet. In fact, children's feet are still in development and very pliable which can put them at risk for injury.
  • The majority of children aged six months to three years have wide feet.
  • The American Podiatric Association recommends soft-soled shoes for children to allow for optimal growth. Traditional stiff shoes can hinder your child's development.
  • Children's shoes are often too small, but they are unable to express this to their parents and the problem often goes unnoticed.

While only a small portion of children are born with foot problems, they can develop as the child grows. Common pediatric foot conditions include:

  • Toeing In
  • Flat Feet
  • Toe Walking
  • Growth Plate Disorders
  • Ingrown Nails
  • Warts
